Hello, and welcome to my blog!
My name is Amy Greene. I have a wonderful husband of 30 years, Scott. My husband is a pastor, and we have been in ministry almost 25 years in many churches. However, about 5 years ago when we left our last “big” church, we decided we wanted to do things different. So we began church services in our living room! Our church group meets at our house every week and it has turned out to be more like family, which is amazing. We have outstanding Bible studies, and I feel as though I have grown more in the Lord in the last five years that ever before. My husband also works as a counselor for families and children, using multiple therapies to guide them to a happier and more peaceful place in their home.
My husband and I have four children – Sarah, Samuel, Daniel, and Rachel. Of course, I call them children – but they range in age from 23 to 14! We made the choice before we ever had kids to homeschool and for one of us to stay home with them, if at all possible. We had some tough times where money was tight, but it taught me to be creative, make do with what I had and sometimes learn how to make what I needed. Much of what I learned is what I hope to share with you through this blog.
My family also has three completely crazy dogs, all of whom are Miniature Schnauzers. Annie, a salt and pepper Schnauzer, is 8, and is every bit the matriarch of the clan, telling the other two younger dogs how to behave daily. Lily, a charcoal / black Schnauzer, is the polite Southern Lady of the group, and tries to help Annie as a “seeing eye dog” due to Annie’s advancing blindness. Guinevere, the youngest, is a midnight black Schnauzer, and even though she is almost 4, I believe she is stuck in the terrible twos LOL. All three of them make our lives more interesting, more fun and I can’t imagine the house without them!
I taught myself how to do medical transcription so I could work from home and be with my children, and I have done that for almost 25 years. Lately, though, I have felt the urging of the Lord to do something different. My favorite part about being a pastor’s wife was helping people, whether it was helping them find their ministry within the church, answering questions about homeschool, or explaining how I make “cat head” biscuits the way my husband’s grandmother taught me. It thrills my heart to help someone learn something that will help them grow. I want this blog to be an extension of my desire to help people, and learn things from them along the way, too.
I will be the first to admit that I am NOT perfect! While I would love to say “We’re debt free” – we aren’t. We have been in the past, but life happened, and now we are working on being debt free again. Sharing the ideas that can be used to become debt free may not only help my family get there – but also help your family get there as well by finding and sharing the ideas that work and are simple, as well as throwing in a lot of encouragement along the way.
So come join me on my journey of blogging, paying off debt, learning how to save money and go back to the old ways of doing many different things. I can’t wait to meet you!
